dogThe majority of dogs are all pet breeds – they are all domestic animals and can be kept in the home with a moderate degree of success.  Keeping a dog as a pet means a big commitment both in time and work involved, in ensuring your animal is content and happy.

When choosing your breed, you must be aware of the breeds’ individual characteristics and how they will behave in an enclosed environment.  Some dogs thrive inside, whereas others exhibit bad behaviour, frustration and anger when kept in an enclosed space for a long period of time.   In some situations, owning a dog is a full time hobby, as you may need to spend time socializing and training the animal.  Many social events exist for dogs and owners, such as dog training, and herding competitions, as well as pedigree dog shows and other showcases of breeds.

The dog is an excellent choice of pet.  They are territorial animals, and when they find their home they will defend it. The audible bark of a dog can be an excellent security measure.  Dogs are known not just for defending territory, but also their owners.  On many occasions, dogs have been known to save their owners lives at the expense of themselves.

Sometimes dogs can exhibit unusual behaviour.  In these cases expert help must be sought as the animal could turn aggressive towards its owner.   Dogs that suffer traumatising events may have severe psychological problems, similar to human beings.  These can be triggered if the dog is exposed to similar situations as the original traumatising incident.
